PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS

Ndewo UIU Dallas Family, Welcome to Quarter 3!!!

Whew! 2023 is moving like it has somewhere to be, aint it???

Last quarter was filled with events that targeted the 3 C’s of our Vision (Culture, Connections and Charity). During our Palm Wine Down and Chin Chin Chat we discussed Igbo family dynamics and learned about Igbo traditional weddings. As a part of our Quarter for Cause: Empowering our Special Populations, we had multiple opportunities to serve our community over 5 community service outreach events. We of course could not forget about the special populations in Igboland, so we ended Q2 by donating $600 to the Enugu Relief Program which provides food equipment, education, and basic necessities to those in need. Lastly, we enjoyed events where we were able to network with one another and have tons of fun like our Passport 2 Professionalism program, the Texas Takeover Highlife event, Bible studies, and happy hours, to name a few.

We ended Quarter 2 off by completing our second UIU Dallas New Member event which was so much fun. It was so nice to be able to give brand new members the opportunity to bond with one another and we made full efforts to offer them a smooth transition into our thriving family. The big bang for Quarter 3 is the launching of our UIU Dallas 2023 Jersey! We hope you love it and secure yours as soon as possible. I also encourage you to complete your member directory as well so we can collect your t-shirt size and give you your free UIU Dallas member t-shirt (you can find the member directory in the

‘member’s corner’ section of this newsletter).

We are so thankful that God continues to Bless our chapter with exponential growth. We are currently at 340 members, and counting! Let’s continue to fuel our efforts in growing our family. There are still a lot of young Igbo professionals in our community who aren’t aware that UIU Dallas exists. Kudos to everyone that has participated in our membership raffle or has invited at least one person to a GBM or an event. We truly do appreciate you! I encourage everyone to continue spreading the word about our events and reposting our event flyers and recaps on social media.

As a reminder, The UIU National Convention event is just around the corner (see the Convention flyer under the ‘members corner’ section of this newsletter for more information). This year, the convention will be held in the Bay Area, and it will be an unforgettable experience. The annual convention is always a great opportunity for all of us to connect with other members of UIU from across the nation, to learn, network, and have fun with like-minded individuals who share similar values and goals. Not to mention, UIU Dallas has a great shot at winning Chapter of the Year again, and we'd love for you to be there to celebrate such an achievement! Get your ticket for the convention as soon as possible, as they are steadily increasing in price. This is an event that you don't want to miss!

In the meantime, I look forward to having your presence and participation in our July events. Let’s start this quarter strong and make this summer a remarkable chapter in our UIU Dallas story.

Take care of yourself! I pray this month will be filled with happiness, inspiration, and consecutive wins for us all.

All my best,

Yvonne Igodan

Are you ready to show off your athletic abilities for a great cause? The mission of Myles Place Foundation is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in various sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Myles Place Foundation continues to provide athletes with opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other athletes, and the community. Join UIU as we partner with Myles Place Foundation to allow athletes to actively participate as leaders, not just recipients of services. Volunteering will occur on July 27th from 5:30-7:30 pm.

There is a maximum of 25 volunteers, so please RSVP on Eventbrite no later than July 26th, 2023. *For more information please access the Eventbrite link.

Puzzle Pals

Hey Puzzle Pal! Jigsaw puzzle exercises the area of the brain that stores memories. There are several benefits that puzzles provide for the elderly including improving concentration, cognitive function, sleep, reducing stress, and enhancing short-term memory. Puzzles provide older people the opportunity to use their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Join UIU as we spend the afternoon putting together jigsaw puzzles with the patients of Lakewest Rehabilitation & Skilled Care. Our goal is to bring joy and engage the senior community through quality time and fellowship. Volunteering will occur on July 29th from 2:00-3:30 pm. There is a maximum of 15 volunteers, so please RSVP on Eventbrite by July 28th, 2023. *For more information please access the Eventbrite link.
