Friends of UIU Dallas,
Welcome to May! It's unbelievable that we are already approaching the half point of the year. We have accomplished so much together, and there are still so many opportunities that lie ahead. I am looking forward to continuing to make an impact in our DFW and Igboland communities alongside you.
Per usual, we have so many diverse and exciting events coming up this month that I hope to see you at. Our events are not only a great way to take a break from the daily grind, but are meant to also provide you with different environments to network and socialize with other members of our chapter. I sincerely hope you have been finding "your people" within our community and are getting the most of your membership!
UIU Dallas has held a number of successful events and initiatives, including our community service outreach projects, professional development workshops, and cultural and networking events. I am incredibly proud of the outstanding pace that our Executive Board has been able to maintain. It has not been easy, but the joy of serving you has definitely helped to sustain us.
The success our chapter has experienced would not be possible without the unwavering support and presence of our members—thank you for always showing up. I encourage you to keep up the activity and engagement in our community. Continue attending our events, sharing your ideas, and volunteering your time and expertise whenever you can.
Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more impactful, UIU Dallas.
As a reminder, the UIU Annual Convention is just around the corner (see the Convention flyer under the ‘Members Corner’ section of this newsletter for more information). This year, the convention will be held in the Bay Area, and it will be an unforgettable experience. The annual convention is always a great opportunity for all of us to connect with other members of UIU from across the nation, to learn, network, and have fun with like-minded individuals who share similar values and goals. Not to mention, UIU Dallas has a great shot at winning Chapter of the Year again, and we'd love for you to be there to celebrate such an achievement! Get your ticket for the convention as soon as possible, as they are steadily increasing in price. This is an event that you don't want to miss, and I look forward to seeing you there.
I am confident that we will continue growing and thriving in the coming months. Let’s keep working together, supporting each other, and making a positive impact in our community.

Umu Igbo Unite is pleased to announce we will be a Community Partner for Black Women Talk Tech 7th Annual Conference: Roadmap to Billions. The 3-day conference will be held in Brooklyn, NY from May 18th-May 20th.
As a community partner, they have given us a limited amount of complimentary conference tickets* (valued at $400) in addition to a general discount code for all members.

Join UIU Dallas as we spend the afternoon decorating and potting start seed plants with the patients of Lakewest Rehabilitation & Skilled Care. Our goal is to bring joy and engage with the senior community.
Gardening is one of the healthiest and best activities for people of any age, including seniors. Gardening activities for the elderly stimulate their senses. Working with plants allows seniors to interact with nature and regain a sense of self and pride. It's been shown to lighten mood and lower levels of stress and anxiety.
Volunteering will occur on May 20th from 2:00-4:30 pm. There is a maximum of 15 volunteers, so please RSVP on Workplace AND Eventbrite no later than May 19th, 2023.
