PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS

UIU Dallas Family, Welcome to April!

I cannot believe Quarter 2 is already here. Time really does fly when you are having fun!

Last quarter was jam packed with events that brought the 3 C’s of our Vision to life (Culture, Connections and Charity). We learned how to make meat pie and ugba during our Nkuzi Cuisine: Couples Edition and learned how to make yam porridge as a chapter. We also began exploring the Igbo language during our General Body Meetings. As a part of our Quarter for Cause: Empowering our Youth, we had multiple opportunities to serve the youth in our community over 5 community service events. We of course could not forget about the youth in Igboland, so we ended the quarter by donating $1,200 to the UIU Cares Feeding Program initiative that supports ~200 disabled youth at the Therapeutic Daycare Center and Boarding School in Enugu State. Lastly, we enjoyed events where we were able to network with one another and have tons of fun like the infamous game night, bible studies, day parties and happy hours, to name a few.

We ended Quarter 1 off with a bang by hosting our very first UIU Dallas New Member Brunch which was an absolute blast. It was so nice to be able to give brand new members the opportunity to bond with one another and we made full efforts to offer them a smooth transition into our thriving family. The big bang for Quarter 2 is the launching of our member T-Shirt along with other UIU Dallas merch! We hope you love it and I encourage you to complete your member directory entry as soon as possible so we can collect your t-shirt size. Additionally, we have an amazing lineup of Quarter 2 events that I know you will enjoy.

We are so thankful that God continues to bless our chapter with exponential growth. We are currently at 264 members, and counting –

we have added 72 members since January!!! Let’s continue to fuel our efforts in reaching 300 members as soon as we can. There are still a lot of young Igbo professionals in our community who aren’t aware that UIU Dallas exists. Kudos to everyone that has invited at least one person to a GBM or an event. We truly do appreciate you! I encourage everyone to continue spreading the word about our events and reposting our event flyers and recaps on social media. It will take a village to reach our goal—we can’t do this without you!

As we forge ahead into Quarter 2, I’d like to leave you all with this prayer:

In Jesus name I pray, Lord thank you for guiding us through Quarter 1 as seamlessly as you did. We ask that you go before us and destroy any obstacle that may arise in Quarter 2. I pray that UIU Dallas and its people never lack anything good. Please apply this blessing to the other UIU chapters across the nation as well. We appreciate you so much for blessing this chapter with such kind, supportive, successful, hardworking and personable members who know how to have a good time. Continue using us as vessels to do good in our local and abroad communities, and within each other. Watch over all of us and our families.

All the glory belongs to you. In Jesus name I pray, Amen!

I am hopeful that your April is filled with showers of blessings and favor galore. God bless!

All my best,

Yvonne Igodan

QUARTER FOR CAUSE
Empowering Special Populations

Let’s play Bingo! Bingo can help seniors maintain hand-eye coordination even as it declines with age. It encourages matching, identifying patterns for mental stimulation, motor skills, and communication with others. The goal of Lakewest Rehabilitation and Skilled Care is to maintain and enhance each resident’s quality of care and life by practicing “Healing in Motion''. Join UIU as we spend the afternoon “Healing in Motion'' by playing bingo with the patients of Lakewest Rehabilitation & Skilled Care. UIU will be assisting patients with impairments that would normally prevent them from being able to participate.

Volunteering will occur on April 15th from 2:00-4:30 pm. For more information please access the Eventbrite link.

There is a maximum of 15 volunteers, so please RSVP before April 14th, 2023.

Calling all Athletes, Cheerleaders, and Sportscasters! Join UIU Dallas as we partner with Special Olympics Texas to provide athletes with an opportunity to actively participate as leaders, and not just recipients of services. Continuously providing athletes with opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other athletes and the community. We will be in charge of the jump station, corralling, draping medals, and announcing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recipients. Prior to the awards ceremony UIU Dallas will also be asked to take pictures, short videos, and interviews of the athletes competing.
